BOONE AREA DEATH

     Irene Louise Flinn Wilcox, 96, Waukee. Formerly of Madrid. Adel HS. Married Clarence (Bill) Wilcox in 1943 in Adel. The couple purchased the Madrid Register News in 1957 and worked side-by-side for many years. Bill passed away in 1983 but Irene didn't retire until 1992. Even then, she continued to write "Notes from Irene" for the newspaper. She received the 50-year journalism award from the Iowa Newspaper Association and in 2014, a Distinguished Service Award for "outstanding contributions to the newspaper association." She was a member of the Madrid Library Board, the Madrid Chamber and Swede Point Questers. She was named Beta Sigma Phi's First Lady of the Year and honored as Madrid's Labor Day Parade Marshall. Survivors include a daughter, three sons, including Dennis Wilcox of Madrid, a sister and three sisters-in-law. Services in Madrid
