THE BEST AND THE BEST

     This is exciting.

     As you know, one of the Kornerman's prime motives for continuing the Korner is to have a method of "spreading the word" about great accomplishments, especially those achieved by local community groups or individuals. 

     Unfortunately, the opportunities here for such media exposure are very limited. Its our hope that we can help "fill that missing gap".

     In that regard, the Kornerman is so happy to be able to publicize the fact that our fair city is now home to Iowa's number one pharmacist, as proclaimed by the Iowa Pharmacy Association.

     Wendy Fairchild Kinne, BHS-88, PharmD,the owner of Medical Associates Pharmacy and Clinic Pharmacy in Boone, is the 2023 recipient of the prestigious Bowl of Hygeia Award, presented to an individual who has made considerable contributions in the area of community service.

     This award recognizes one pharmacist from each state annually and the Iowa recipient was chosen by a committee of civic leaders from across the state.

     Wendy has earned two college degrees, a Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy, earned in 1993, and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, earned in 2005, both from the State University of Iowa. After practicing in Boone for 20 years, she took ownership of her pharmacy in 2013. She also serves as a student pharmacist preceptor for Drake University and the University of Iowa and is certified in providing immunizations, Medication Therapy Management (MTM) and therapeutic shoes.

     Her outstanding community work was verified by over 20 letters of commendation submitted to the nomination committee by those who have recognized her many contributions, including work with and for the Boone County Hospital Board, the Boone Chamber of Commerce, the Educational Endowment Foundation, the Central Iowa Healthcare Coalition, 4-H, Childserve, Kiwanis and Boone High School among others.

     During the COVID crisis, Wendy dedicated office space and many personal hours in helping vaccinate the community, which helped Boone County achieve one of the highest vaccination rates in the state.

     Wendy is the daughter of Gary and Carol Fairchild of Boone. She and her husband, Scot Kinne, BHS-87, have two adult children, a girl, Erin, and a boy, Bret.

     Old bud, Bernie Lewiston, an employee of KWBG those many years ago, replied to the recent Korner quip about the song, "Cement Mixer," that we referred to in the last Korner.

     He wrote, "I enjoyed that bit. I listened to the Alvino Rey version of it....COOL!!! Father Mulcahy, on a MASH episode, sang that once when they were mixing concrete for a new floor for their OR."

     Just received the latest issue, June 2023, of Trail Tales, the Boone County Historical Society publication, and if you were/are an admirer of the work of the late Larry Adams, you will want to see this Adams filled issue. Numerous pictures and lots of remembrances.
