BOONE CONNECTED DEATH

     Jeffrey Jon (Gramps) Yates, 77, Madrid. Born in Perry. Des Moines Tech HS. Viet Nam vet. In law enforcement, he became a police officer in South Carolina but returned to Iowa where he served as Police Chief in Sanborn and was a member of the Atlantic police force. In 1982, he retired from his service with the Boone Police Department. While in Boone, he fostered many children and helped a Girl Scout troop. In 1982, he moved to Madrid to own his own restaurant. In 1984, he met his wife, Debra. They were married for 34 years. Six children also survive. Jeff loved cruising, WWE wrestling, gambling and he could find his friends at McDonald's every Sunday. Services were held Friday (3/10) in Madrid.
