BOONE RESIDENTS GAIN ACCLAIM

O.K., the Kornerman is probably, personally, braggadociois at times but remember what old Dizzy Dean always said,"it ain't braggin' if you did it." I do try to stick to the facts and avoid excess embellishment.

Also, in my defense, remember, too, that I'm also Boone Iowa's number one booster. What's wrong with that? If the community, in general, or any of our inhabitants, personally, do something especially worthy of praise and I'm aware, I'll relate it to the heavens and more.

SO, I do have some great news of some great things done recently by some Boone folks.

Boone's Autumn Nigro-Weaver, BHS-2010, is deaf but its quite obvious she's not sitting in a corner and bowing to a disability she's faced for a lifetime. Quite the contrary. Her's is an amazing story of grit and determination.

Autumn's latest success has occurred this year. After being named "Amazing Iowa Senior Miss," in January, she traveled to Nashville last month and took top national honors, "National Miss Amazing Senior Miss Queen. She had been honored before......twice. In both 2016 and 2017, she was named "Miss Deaf USA" and went on to a fifth runnerup selection in the "Miss Deaf World" competition.

Sure, there, no doubt, have been some tough times trying to "fit in" but here was a young lady who faced her disability "head on" and has done numerous things that have taught and inspired others who face similar situations.

One of her main objectives have been to make American Sign Language (ASL) more accessible to deaf and hearing impaired people. She teaches ASL classes in Boone, Ames, Madrid and Ogden and speaks at various sites, providing information about her personal life history and how she has successfully conquered it.

CONGRATULATIONS AUTUMN. YOU  MAKE ALL OF BOONE PROUD.

Then too, we receive word that two well known Boone names have been honored by entrance into the Iowa 16-inch, slow pitch, Hall of Fame.

Five new members were recently inducted and the class includes Mike Kruse, BHS-79, and Pat Kruse,BHS-82. So, congratulations are in order for those sons of Boone residents Lila and Darrell Kruse.

Their longtime diamond achievements have been noticed statewide.
