Clarence William (Gene) Bass Jr., 73, Ogden. Victim of a car mishap. Raised in Johnston, JHS-67. Area 11 graduate, now DMACC Tool and Die Program. Guard member and graduate with honors from Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. Worked as a maintenance machinist at Meridith Printing, bought by RR Donnelly, for 15 years. Also worked for the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union. In retirement, worked for Kyle's Bikes and the Bike Barn in Ogden. Was gifted in math and had a mechanical mind that allowed him to "fix" many things. Loved bicycles and built each of his children's first bikes. Moved to Ogden in 2010 and, unfortunately, had a stroke. He found a community there that looked out for him and friends who cared, many whom attended Ogden Baptist Church. Survivors include three adult children, a son and two daughters, a brother, sister and two sisters-in-law. Services in Ankeny.
