TERRIBLE NEWS

Unfortunately, Boone's Pete Kostelnick, BHS-2005, who has been one of the world's top long distance runners in recent years, is hospitalized in Colorado Springs, CO after a horrendous accident that was bad but could have been even worse.

It appears that Pete and a couple friends were heading back to camp after dinner and as they made a turn, a very fast car hit them from behind. But, let me allow Pete to finish the story.

"I was sitting in back and, at first, it looked like just a couple minor fractures and a concussion. Then, a serious hematoma and pelvic fractures had me on my first helicopter ride from Salida to Colorado Springs. Hematoma has, hopefully, been dealt with, but surgery for the pelvic fractures will soon be scheduled. It's going to be a long road back," he commented.

The son of Charles and Clare Kostelnick of Boone is used to facing many difficult challenges in his long and brilliant athletic career so we're confident he will overcome this devastating blow.

Thanks to John Kueck, BHS-61, for keeping us abreast of Pete's career. Sorry that this report is not the positive we are used to hearing.

John added that he was another who has heard the KWBG interview I did during Pufferbilly. He's based, of course, in the Minneapolis area.

Lauren Taylor, BHS-69, also checked in with the news that he heard the interview. He's up in northern Iowa.
