Anybody remember Jeff Gard? I thought so. For quite some time, Jeff was a popular elementary teacher at Franklin Elementary before retirement and a return to his home town, Cedar Rapids.

Something you may not know about Jeff. He's an Iowa Master Angler. In his own words, here's how he described "the one that DIDN'T get away." We were trolling for crappie with four pound test line when this 13 pound flathead picked up my 1/16 oz. jig with a minnow. I was in for the battle of my life, 20 minutes at least, before it rolled into the net."
The action occurred at Lake MacBride in Johnson County and Jeff was recognized by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources via a nice certificate naming him an Iowa Master Angler. The flathead catfish weighed in at 13 pounds and was 36 inches in length.
He wrote, "so many fond memories of my days in Boone. Thanks for being a part of them."
