BOONE/AREA CONNECTED DEATHS

       John Sherman Pohl, 85, Boone/Eastern Star. Born in Boone. Jordan/United Community HS-58. Began farming with his father. Married Sharon Erickson in Luther in 1961. During the winter months, John worked in carpentry with the Ahrens Brothers, helped build United Community school, drove a bulk milk truck, drove a gravel truck, worked for Boone Case Implement assembling machinery and moved snow in Boone and Ames parking lots. In later years, he drove a semi, hauling grain from various farmsteads to Des Moines and the area, and drove a Boone County Transportation vehicle. He was named Boone Counties Outstanding Young Farmer in 1974 and received Outstanding Achievement awards in the production of corn in 1984 and 1985. An active church member, John served on the Boone County Extension Service, United Community school board, his Coop Elevator board and the Boone County Pork and Beef Producers boards. Survivors include his wife, Sharon, a daughter, Brenda Fisher, a sister Linda and brother Dick. Services in Boone. 

       Ida Hartling Cox, 86, Boone/Westhaven. Born in Sigourney. Brainerd MN HS. Married Doyle Cox in 1964 in Council Bluffs. The couple made their home in Boone. After raising their children, Ida worked at the Boone County Hospital and Westhaven. She enjoyed reading, especially newspapers and cook books. A talented artist, she drew many sketches and floral designs. Husband Doyle died in 2023. Survivors include a daughter, Wanda Cox, and a step-son, Chris (Julie) Cox both of Boone. Additional Boone survivors are a grandson, Joshua Stover, and step-grandchildren, Lacey and Tony Cox. A private family service is planned.
