BOONE CONNECTED/AREA DEATHS
Richard Dean Johnson, 87, Ankeny. Formerly of Sheldahl. Born in Nebraska. Spencer IA HS-52. Earned a degree from the General Motors Institute in 1954 and an early job was as an auto service and parts manager in Madrid. Married Jane Sire in 1956. Was a member of the Iowa National Guard. Eventually became the Iowa State Auditor, 1979-2002. Owned farm ground in Boone County and was a member of the Boone County Farm Bureau. His lifetime church was the Evangelical Free Church in Madrid where services will be held. His wife, two sisters and four adult children survive.
Linda Jo Pickering, 69, Story City. Cara Hammer of Boone, a daughter, is among the survivors.
Shirley Marie Carstensen Porter Rex, 86, Ogden. Born and educated in Jefferson. Married Don Porter and he passed away in 1991. Married Eldon Rex and they lived in Perry. Eldon passed away in 2012 and Shirley moved to Boone in 2019. Survivors include two daughters, Pam Phipps and Sheri Anderson, both of Boone, three sons, including Kevin Porter of Boone, a sister and a brother. Services in Ogden.
Mary Denise Robinson Rhodd, 67. Paton-Churdan HS. DMACC Associate's Degree from Boone Campus and earned a degree in English from ISU. Most of her life, worked for CDS Global in Boone and Des Moines as an account manager. Survivors include two brothers, a sister and three adult children. Service at Easter Lake, #4.
