BOONE/AREA CONNECTED DEATHS

         Dr. Sara E. (Sally) Sutton, 98 , Johnston. Born in Des Moines. DM Roosevelt HS. Boone resident from 1930-1942. Attended Drake University, followed by Westminster Choir College in New Jersey to study pipe organ and voice. Returned to Drake for pre-med studies, then graduated in 1953 from Des Moines University Osteopathy and Surgery. Later, earned a B.A. from Drake and in 1990, Drake bestowed a Doctorate in Humane Letters upon her. She was an adjunct professor at Des Moines University and Kirksville for many years. Did further work at Des Moines General Hospital and Kirkville College of Osteopathic Medicine before establishing a practice in osteopathic manipulation in her home. During her long career of Family Practice and Osteopathic Manual Medicine, she served in Renwick, Fort Dodge and Des Moines, finally retiring at age 88. Sara loved cooking and published Dr. Sally's Cookbook in 2003. Preceding her in death were brothers Gerald H. and James Sutton and sister-in-law Calista Sutton. All had Boone connections. Survivors include a sister-in-law and brother-in-law. Services in Des Moines.    

       Charles "Chuck" William Ray, 77, Nevada. Born in Ames. NHS-65. Ellsworth CC and Iowa State. Worked for Alliant Energy for 41 years, retiring in 2009. Married Bert Ann Mummelthie in Nevada in 1979. Was active in Memorial Lutheran Church, was a woodworker and loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Bert Ann, of Nevada and his children, Steven Ray and Michele (Kevin) Porter, both of Boone. Services in Nevada. 

       Dale Elmer Larrew, 73, Ankeny. Born in Boone. BHS-69. Earned an Associates degree from DMACC, Boone Campus and a degree in photography from Hawkeye Community College. Married Karen Jean Carson in Ames in 1979. The couple divorced in 1998. Dale did screen printing at a shop in Ames,was a custodian at the Boone County Hospital and Mary Greeley Hospital and after working in the print department of the DOT in Ames, he retired in 2010. Dale enjoyed photography, reading murder novels, traveling and watching ISU basketball. Boone survivors include a son, Ben (Nikki) Larrew and three grandchildren, Taylor, Caden and Maddie Larrew. Service in Ankeny and burial in Boone.   

     Dorothy Stewart Phipps, 86, Adel/Adel Acres. Formerly of Boone. Born in Des Moines. Married Douglas Phipps in 1992 in Boone. Doug passed in 2004. Known as "Pickles," she was a resident of Adel Acres for four years. A member of the Open Bible Church and the Boone VFW Auxiliary, she enjoyed doing crafts, thrift shopping and hoarding yarn. Two adult children, Judy Ahrens, and Jamie Phipps, survive, as do three step-children, Gary (Paula) Phipps, Terrie (Jim) McGuire and Ann (Randy) Martin. Other survivors are a brother, Don (Barb) Stewart, a sister, Janice (Kevin) Clemens, and two sisters-in-law. Services in Boone.
