BOONE CONNECTED DEATHS

     Joseph Wenceslaus Zachar Jr., 80, Cedar Rapids. Married Marcia Ward, BHS-62, at Boone Sacred Heart church in 1966. Four adult children survive. Also surviving are Ward siblings, Linda Rickertsen, Debbie (Don) Dogotch, Randy (Kathy) Ward, Daniel (Carol) Ward and Patty (Ron) Gade. Services in Cedar Rapids.

     Carolyn Mae Vetter Handy, 88, Boone/Westhaven. Born in Kansas. Topeka HS-53. She worked at an ice cream shop and was a baby sitter to earn money for the purchase of a Janssen piano at age 17. Married Walt Handy in 1955. The couple sought work in Kansas, Alabama and Oklahoma as Walt pursued a career in newspaper work. They eventually settled in Boone when Walt joined the Boone News Republican. When the couple divorced, Carolyn went to work for the Bell Telephone system and also Boone Bank and Trust before retirement. She enjoyed sewing, was a great cook and followed her granddaughter's sporting events. She was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star. A daughter, Linda (Jim) Mosman of Boone survives. Services in Boone.

     Glen Merle Maynard, 85, Coon Rapids. Formerly of Boone. Born in Boone. BHS-58. Air Force vet. Married Donna Jean Ginter in 1961. Served in the Air National Guard. He loved to joke, putting model cars together, watching old westerns and reading Louis Lamour and Zane Grey books. Survivors include his wife, Donna, four adult children and two sisters. Burial in Iowa Veterans Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
