AREA CONNECTED DEATH

     Betty Jean Thompson McDowell, 84, Perry/Kennybrook, Grimes. Born in Jefferson. Boxholm HS-58. Married Dean Arnold (Skip) McDowell in 1964. After being a homemaker and farmer's wife, Betty worked at Wil-Do Cleaners, Gottschalk Seed and Levan Seed. She started a Girl Scouts group in Perry and was a member of the Camp Fire girls. She liked playing cards, bingo, golfing, fishing, making ceramics, gardening and camping. For 18 years, the couple wintered in Arizona. Betty was a member of Eastern Star and the Master Gardeners. Survivors include five daughters, including Tammy (Jeff) Wirtz  of Ogden. Two brothers, including Clifford Thompson of Boone, also survive. Services in Perry.

     John (Jack) Wade, 91, Madrid. Born near Jamaica, IA. Jefferson HS-49. Iowa National Guard vet. Retired as Master Sergeant after 22 years. Married Louise Lynn in 1951. She passed in 2013. Worked for Iowa Electric/Alliant Energy for 42 years prior to retirement in 1991. Jack enjoyed singing and acting in musicals. Also enjoyed camping, traveling, puzzles and feeding the birds and squirrels. Was an active volunteer with Cub/Boy Scouts and was a Do-Dad at Camp Hantesa. Four adult children, including Wendy (Ray) Ortmann of Madrid, survive. A brother also survives. Services in Madrid.
