BOONE/AREA CONNECTED DEATHS

     Russell Kahler, 63, Boone/Eastern Star. Born in Nebraska. Ames HS. DMACC in Ankeny. Married Teresa Bennet in Boone in 1989. They divorced. Russell worked for K-Mart in Ames from the time the store opened to the time it closed and also for ISU as a security guard for 15 years. Survivors include two sons, Brandon (KJ Johnson) Kahler and Logan (Amanda Nichols) Kahler, both of Boone and four brothers, including Ron of Boone and Roger of Ogden. Services in Boone.

     Richard (Rich) Ashburn, 78, Ames. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Kathy Ashburn, of Boone. Services in Lamoni. 

     Mildred Marguerite McAllister Sigmund, 99, Ames/Northridge. Formerly of Stanhope. Born in Booneville. Van Meter HS at age 15. Earned a teaching certificate and taught at a one room school near Luther at age 17. Did receive a B.S. from Drake in 1969. Married Logan Sigmund in 1946 and the couple started life together on a farm near Luther. Later, they moved to a farm near Stanhope. Mildred taught school in Luther, Stanhope and Stratford. She was an active member of her church and enjoyed leading story time at the Stanhope Library and planning a float for Watermelon Days. Loved to cook and bake and purchased an embroidery machine to make quilts and clothing for friends and family. Two children and three sisters-in-law survive. Services in Stanhope and Boone with burial at Squire Boone.
