BOONE/AREA CONNECTED DEATHS

     Beverly Lynn Nordyke, 65, Boone. Formerly of Eldora.  Beverly was married to Robert Glenn Sanders and then to Ralph Risius. In early years, she worked in Boyt Factory and truck stop. Later, she was a CNA for many years and for 10 years prior to retirement, she worked for Genesis Development. Beverly loved baking, crafts and painting by the numbers. Survivors include five children, including Joshua (Dani) Sanders of Ogden, Alisha (Jesse) LeVerne and Amanda (Richard) Risius both of Boone. Three sisters and a brother also survive. A COL will take place at a later time.     

      Elizabeth Marie "Betsy" McGrane Haberer, 89, Boone. Born in Des Moines. St. Joseph Academy. Mercy School of Nursing. Married Chuck Haberer in Des Moines in 1958 and the couple moved to their farm in Boone, where they resided for over 60 years.Worked in the OB department at Mercy and continued nursing at Ledges Manor as well as private and respite care nursing and many summers as camp nurse at O'Brien's Ranch in Boone. Betsy enjoyed traveling, including to Ireland, and playing cards. She was devoted to her church and belonged to the Altar Society. Survivors include her husband, Chuck, of Boone, and seven children. Services in Boone.

      Marcia Kay Karstens Brunsvold, 78, Boone. Born in Carroll. Crestland HS-64. Wayne State. Became an R.N. via the Johnson County Community College Nursing Program. Married Arlee Brunsvold in Sac City in 1964. Began nursing at Mayo Clinic where she was a Cardiac Intensive Care Nurse. Has also worked at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, was Nursing Home Director in Oklahoma and ended her career as a Healthcare Finder at an Air Force base in Oklahoma. Marcia was the director of an Ogden bible study for 22 years and was active in Questers. She loved acting and singing in her church, wrote a Christmas program for kids and loved flower gardening. Survivors include her husband, Arlee Brunsvold, of Boone. Four children also survive. Services in Ogden.  

      Robert John "Bob" Kieffer, 65, Ogden/Westhaven, who passed after years of battling with Parkinson's. Born in Ames. OHS-77. An outstanding student and athlete, he was selected to play in the first Iowa High School All Star baseball game. Earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from ISU in 1982. Married Lisa Lynn Streit in Moorland in 1991. For 30 years, the couple lived in the house Bob designed and helped build. Worked for Boone County for over 30 years, retiring as Boone County Engineer in 2014. Following retirement, he tutored kids in math at the Ogden schools. He enjoyed woodworking and had a passion for golf. Survivors include his wife, Lisa, two children, a sister, and four brothers, including Steve Kieffer of Ogden. Services in Ogden.

     Gordon Richard "Dick" Shoeman, 76, West Des Moines. Born in Oklahoma. Madrid HS-66. Army vet. Commercial Art degree from DMACC. Married Janet Hannum in 1973. He taught Film Animation through the Des Moines Art Center for over 14 years. Survivors include his wife, Janet, a daughter and five siblings. Services in West Des Moines.
