BOONE/AREA CONNECTED DEATHS

     Jean Marie Davis Achenbach, 67, Boone/Eastern Star. Born in Council Bluffs. BHS-74. Married Gary F. Achenbach in Boone in 1980. Jean worked for several years in the Boone School System as a secretary and then a library aide. She loved knitting and feeding deer, squirrels and birds. The daughter of an English war bridge, she had a strong connection to Britain and had visited that country many times to visit relatives. Survivors include her husband, Gary, a daughter, two sons and two brothers, including Mike Davis of Boone. Services in Boone.  

     Shirley Lorraine Murken Lutjen, 90, Rural Boone/Eastern Star. Born in Boone. BHS-51. Married LaVerne Lutjen in Boone in 1951. The couple farmed near Stanhope and Lorraine worked for a time with DeKalb in Ames, supporting dealers across the region. A gifted musician, she played the piano and organ and was the organist for Trinity and then St. Paul's for over 40 years. A 4-H leader, she was also an active gardener and skilled seamstress. Survivors are four daughters, including Mari Lynn (Paul) Heineman of Ogden, as well as brother, Dr. Roger (Alice) Murken, BHS-54 and sister Barbara (Walt) Gmelch. Services pending but at St. Paul's. 

     Norma Elaine Fridlington Ripkey, 86, Boone/Westhaven. Born in Mahaska County. Melcher-Dallas HS. Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) graduate and earned an associate degree in Nursing Home Administration, which was used in service to Ledges Manor. Married John Ripkey and later, Vernon Matthews. Both are deceased. Norma traveled extensively and had several hobbies, including quilting, sewing and she was a Master Gardener. Three sons survive as do two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Morgan and Rebecca Sue Fraetis, both of Boone. Services in Boone.  

     Catherine Ann "Cathy" Hotchkiss Peterson Simpson, 63, Stratford. Born in Boone. Stratford HS-79. Married Brett Peterson in Stratford in 1980 and he passed away in 1989. Married James Russell Simpson in Stratford in 1993 and the couple made their home in Stratford. Cathy was a scheduler at Kenco Warehouse in Webster City before working for CDS Global in Boone for over 23 years. Cathy enjoyed gambling, spending time on the river and was an avid ISU sports fan. Survivors include her husband, James, and daughter, Madison Simpson, both of Stratford. Three step-children, a brother and sister also survive. Services in Stratford.   

     Ronald Lee "Red" Williams, 89, Grimes/Kennybrook Village. Formerly of Ogden. Born in Ogden. Married Rose Schmitt in 1954. The couple owned and operated a Mom and Pop grocery store, first, as Williams Food Market and then as Williams Foodland. They loved Ogden but in 2015 made the difficult decision to move to Kennybrook Village in Grimes to be closer to their daughter and family. Survivors include the daughter, Lori (Jon) Kalvik. Services in Ogden.
