SEVERAL EVENTS RETURN TO NORMALCY

Hopefully, all of you Boone folks, near and far, are aware, by now, that the Pufferbilly extravaganza dates have been changed. The event will take place a month earlier than in the past.
For several years, the schedule was standard........the last few days of Labor Day weekend in early September.
Now, for a myriad of reasons, most which seem to make good sense, the "new" Pufferbilly days will be August 6-8.
Can you believe it? This will be the 44th Pufferbilly and every one of those years, it seemed there were certain citizens who proclaimed...."it will never last."
Most of the traditional portions of past celebrations.....the parade etc. etc..., and maybe even some new ones, will still take place.
Pufferbilly has always been a popular time for BHS/BSH classes to have school reunions back in the old home town.
The 1965 group has informed us that they will plan to meet on Friday, August 6, at the Pufferbilly Entertainment Center, Ninth and Keeler, at 6 p.m., followed by a get-together Saturday, August 7, at Cedar Pointe Golf and Country Club from 6 to 10 p.m. to enjoy hors d' oeuves and chatter from 6 to 10 p.m. AT NO COST. Cash bar.
Advance notice of your plan to attend would be appreciated.......text Lynn Pestotnik 515-230-9371.

It is great to return so many events to normalcy after the pandemic crisis.
The Boone Municipal Band is back. They had their initial Wednesday night concert at the McHose Park Pavillion last week before an appreciative but, somewhat, small crowd. Sadly, many folks simply had no knowledge of its return because of our very limited communication opportunities.
We, at the Korner, do what we can to "spread the word" about such events.
There's another concert tonight at 7:30 p..m. at the Pavillion so........plan to attend and don't be hesitant in contacting your friends, neighbors and family members about the opportunity to enjoy a great musical program.

There's just one very sad note pertaining to the band.. Late last week in Cedar Rapids, Boone native, Jim Harken, 47, passed away after a long battle with colon cancer.
So many fans of the Municipal Band will remember Jim as the guy wearing the tuxedo and doing all the announcing at the Boone Iowa Band Festival. He honored us with some 30 years of this duty.
     A more complete obituary follows.

After many months of planning and construction, the "Green Space," located in downtown Boone at the northwest corner of Eighth and Story was formally dedicated last week.
An estimated crowd of 500 crammed the middle of the downtown area for the ceremony.
With green grass, some benches, a small stage and many flags flying, it will be a nice gathering place for future events. Its a nice addition to the downtown area.
