BOONE CONNECTED DEATH

      Helen Jean Reynoldson Mattson, 88, Boone. BHS-53.

      Charlize Whitney Flick, 16, Huxley/Boone. Weighed three pounds when born in Des Moines. Was very creative and artistic and loved music. Also enjoyed animals and traveling. Had a great fashion sense and deep faith. Survivors include her parents, Tammy Flick of Boone and Bill Flick of Huxley. A brother, Keaton Anderson, of Boone also survives. Services in Huxley and Ames.  

      Jeff Oppedahl, 53, Boone. Born in Iowa City. Ogden HS-96. Married Angie John at the Arboretum in 1996. Worked construction and in a framing business with his brother and a friend. Was a stay-at-home dad for two years as the father of triplets. Then worked for the DOT on the soil party crew. Was forced into retirement via a work accident. Survivors include his wife, Angie, three children, his mother, Chris Oppedahl, and brother, Greg Oppedahl. Services in Boone.  

      Marilyn Jane Miller Long, 91, Boone. BHS-50. Was selected for the all-state band. Earned a teaching degree from Iowa State Teachers (UNI) in 1952. Married Everett Long in Boone in 1952. Taught one year in Dayton, then for Dr. Manderscheid until he retired in 1988. At 55, she took computer classes at DMACC and began working in the optometry offices of Dr. Charles Bailey and Dr. Jeff Anderson. Concluded her working days at ISU starting in 1989. Worked in Minority Student Affairs and for the ISU Alumni Association until retirement in 1997. Loved her involvement in church and loved traveling. Was also active in the Ericson Library and volunteered at the Mamie Doud Eisenhower Birthplace. Survivors include her adult children, sons Gary and Jim and Boone daughters, Katherine Workman, JoEllen and Mary. A sister, Carol, also survives. Services in Boone.

     Martin Edward McGrane, 80, Des Moines. Dowling HS. Survivors include a sister, Betsy Haberer, of Boone. Services in Urbandale and Des Moines.

    James Laurence "Larry" Dooley, 87, Des Moines. Born in Boone. Parents were James Marvin and Evelyn Dooley (Askeland). Family moved to Sheldon. SHS-54. ISU/DOT. Was a pilot and a rifle marksman. Eventually, flew for Iowa State University Flight Services. Managed Flight Services until retirement. Survivors include his wife, Lori, a daughter and sister.
