Gary Knox, UC-58, had some thoughts about the school enrollments that appeared in the last edition.
Gary wrote, "when I read your school enrollments for the old CIC teams that had Newton 51st with 638 HS students, I was stunned. The year I began teaching at Newton, the graduation class of 1967 had nearly 400 graduating seniors. At that time, grades 10-12 had around 1,100 students and there were two middle schools, grades 7-9. There were 8 elementary schools, grades K-6. Now, Newton has a senior high with grades 9-12, one middle school and 5 elementary schools."
He added, "In 1954, I was a freshman at Jordan HS with 47 students, grades 9-12. We played similarly sized schools in baseball and basketball......Slater, Boxholm, Pilot Mound, Luther, Napier, McCallsburg and also played the larger Boone JV, Madrid and Ogden. Now, look at the size of Slater (Ballard) and Gilbert thanks to their proximity to Ames. Ogden and Madrid struggle to survive but the rest......gone."
The Kornerman says, "Gilbert is 83rd with 381 students and Ballard is 84th with 379.

Old bud Larry Kelley, BHS-64, is still trying to completely track down ALL of the KWBG alumni from its beginning March 2, 1950. He thinks he's close to completing that task. However, he is still seeking a female news reporter that worked at the station in 1975-76.
The Kornerman says, "I was done in 1970 and have no knowledge to provide."
Maybe someone out there in Kornerland does.

Bill Olson, BHS-62, passed on some info that may provide some inspirational aid in getting through this Coronavirus situation. Actually, Bill had received it from Karen Keys, BHS-62.
Karen wrote to Bill, "there is a movie everyone should see. It is called, "Before the Wrath" by Brent Miller Jr. and Ingenuity Films and narrated by Kevin Sorbo. It is so uplifting. It is probably on Amazon or www.beforethewrath.com or www.ingenuityfilms.com."

Nelson Tompkins, BHS-57, added a little humor to the present abyss. He sent, "they said a mask and  gloves were enough to go to the grocery store. THEY LIED. Everyone else had clothes on."
     and
Kathleen Wheelock has added some Phyllis Diller memories:
     (1) As beauty fades, so will his eyesight.
     (2) Housework can't kill you, but why take a chance.
     (3) Best way to get rid of kitchen odors? Eat out.
     (4) You know you're old if they have discontinued your blood type.
     (5) The reason women don't play football is because 11 of them would never wear the same outfit in public.
