BUSY TIMES

COMING EVENTS: That old-fashioned steam engine ride from Omaha to Boone is coming soon, as part of Omaha's Railroad Days, July13-14.
The Big Boy No. 4014 was delivered to Union Pacific in 1941. It was retired in 1961 after traveling 1,031,205 miles while in service. The railroad reacquired the locomotive in 2013 and sent it to Cheyenne, WY for restoration.
The restored engine, the only operational Big Boy left, came out of the shop earlier in May. It is longer than two city buses and is powerful enough to pull 16 Statues of Liberty over a mountain range.
Omaha Railroad Days consists of a series of train-themed events at locations throughout the area. The Union Pacific Railroad Museum is offering rides on the train, pulled by a 1940's steam engine to cap off Omaha Railroad Days.
The newly restored Big Boy No. 4014 steam train will carry passengers from Omaha to Boone on July 15. Guests will disembark at Boone and travel via luxury motor coach back to Omaha. The reverse is probable if folks from this area can find their way to Omaha and "come back" to Boone.
Tickets were $400 to $700 and there was an advance sale. The proceeds benefit the museum.

Regarding the recent request of Jan Rardin for a picture of Jimmy Archer Field. The Kornerman found the Little League history book that had a picture of Jimmy Archer Field in it and we sent that to Jan who was very happy to receive it for further distribution.

Jim Turbes, who has spent many years of his long career at KWBG radio, has been named the Grand Marshal of the upcoming Pufferbilly Days parade.
A great honor BUT a few years too late. Very, very well deserving. He has served the community well.
