A GREAT MATCH

Nick Collison liked the NBA Oklahoma City Thunder and the Thunder apparently liked him too. A perfect marriage and ...........it will continue.
Collison recently retired from a very successful 11-year NBA/Thunder career. He was a strong community supporter "off the court" and a fan favorite "on the court."
The Thunder wants him to continue representing the franchise so they've named him a Special Assistant to the Executive Vice-President and General Manager.
Collison never lived in Boone but he has strong connections to this community. His parents are both Boone High graduates......Judy Peterson Collison, BHS-72, and Dave Collison, BHS-72. All his grandparents lived here and there are still Collison relatives in the immediate Boone area.

With our recent mention of Ev Hickman, BHS-54, in the Korner, I fully expected to hear a response from Ozark Vern, Vern Modeland, BHS-50, and he didn't disappoint.
Here's what Vern had to say, "I don't recall he ever worked at KWBG. He came to WHO while I was there, circa 1955-65. First, as an announcer and then transitioned into the Jack Shelley news department about the time I left WHO for corporate communications work at Beech Aircraft in Wichita. That would have been about 1965. And, Shelley was the News Director at WHO, taking over when H.R. Gross moved on  to Washington D.C. and politics. (KK says, "I remember that.") Shelley served as an overseas correspondent briefly for WHO during World War II as did Farm Director Herb Plambeck. I recall many of Jack's stories on his hitch in the trenches (not literally). Everett was a news reader all right, and did very little "street" reporting as I recall. That wasn't his forte'. Can you believe how far journalism has sunken (no) since those days when it earned respect as truly the Fourth Estate?"
The Kornerman says, "I don't think I'll get into answering that last comment......its just too darn disheartening to talk about."
