STILL UNDER DURESS

The Kornerman is still fighting computer problems. We're trying to do this on Jo's laptop. Hopefully??

When reviewing the business climate recently, I left out Verizon. They are building on the south part of the old Fareway Instructional  Center. The new Nerem Insurance  and Bacon Jewelry are just north of them.
As  mentioned earlier, Kum and Go is no longer in town.....as Kum  and Go. Their logos etc.  have come down and  whoever is taking over, is proceeding in business but when no indentification signs yet.

SHORT STUFF: (1) Janelle Henry has moved to Virginia  and lost her Whit's Drive In sloppy joe recipe enroute. She wonders if anyone has  it? I think the Kornerman may have it, but I'm not in a position right now to secure it. (2) Someone recalled the old Boone Soap Box Derby.....on Story Street between Sixth and Seventh Streets. They thought the Sellers boys, Tom and whoever, built a  car that  was sort  of a "green box." It was described  as  a "big  deal," sponsored by Derby folks from Akron, OH. (3) A Merry Christmas  greeting was  received from the Kueck's of Minneapolis....a nice pix of the couple included. John wrote, "after  42 years in  the computer business and this digital age of social media where I am on Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram, I am sending an electronic Christmas card to wish you a Merry Christmas. John says he still  runs but has retired from actual racing. The family of 15 will be at their daughter's house in Farmington on Christmas Day. He  concluded, "I thoroughly enjoy your blog. You do a great service for the Boone community and "us alumni."' (4) Mike Sundall of Cedar Rapids wonders if there is any Boone connection/chapter in the Naples/Ft. Meyers, FL area. He wrote, "anybody know any people from Boone, besides Larry Land, that lives in that area. Would be fun to get a Boone group together." (5) Thanks to Kathleen  Wheelock for the Christmas E card.

Speaking  of providing service to the community, our coffee group is very concerned about how,  we in Boonetown, are going to communicate as we lose our News  Republican. We think its a  foregone conclusion that our Thursday newspaper will soon be gone and what  little Boone news  is provided will be part of the Ames Tribune and they will make an effort to switch BNR subscribers to the Tribune.
Even now, communication is a real problem. KWBG makes a good effort but ordinary, every day events that are happening, get very limited  or no coverage, citizens are unaware of important gatherings coming  up and many times, obituaries and, even services and burial, come and go before anyone, other than family members, know about them.
Seems like a real problem and maybe one that the Chamber should study for possible answers. Perhaps some kind of a community calendar that would be available in a known location available to everyone??
