SPECIAL REPORT

     The Boone High School Toreador softball team will attempt to win Boone High's first ever State Softball championship Friday night at 5 p.m. at Fort Dodge.

     Boone, 28-8, was ranked fifth statewide coming into State play. They defeated fourth rated Carlisle, 28-10, in a first round game, 5-0, and Wednesday stopped Winterset, 34-7, in the semifinals, 4-2.. The teams had met before. Boone and Carlisle split two games played earlier while Boone had lost twice to Winterset during the regular season and Winterset came into the tournament as the top-rated team in 4-A in the state.

     Boone's championship game opponent in class 4-A will be Epworth, Western Dubuque, 34-7. Western Dubuque came into the tournament rated the second best team in class 4-A in the state. 

    Wednesday night, the Toreador baseball team lost to Adel, ADM, 8-4, in class 3-A Sub-State tournament play to conclude an outstanding season.
