SLOW TIMES

We, the Korner, have been there before and we're there again........engulfed by a very slow period. Viewers have, no doubt, noticed all we've had to offer the last edition or two were death updates. We're happy to provide this service......which is almost non-existent anywhere else locally......but we also like to relive viewers stories and memories of the past or local news of the present.
In a recent email, RaeAnn Clark, BHS-70, gave her explanation of why we may have these slow times.
RaeAnn wrote, "its easy to click on Kelley's Korner if you have it bookmarked, which I do and I'm sure many others do also. So, you do get many hits to show that people are reading it. But, to respond, one has to go to their email and try to type in your address and then type what they want to share. Unless someone is sitting at a computer to type, it is not so easy. As people get older and use their phones or hand computers, they tend to read stuff and just answer quick responses, not get into typing a lot because the print is small and the fingers don't always work as well. But they LOVE to read the blog to remember Boone and the goings on. And, to find out who died since we can't depend on the local newspaper for that. You like doing your blog and people like reading it but for many, its extra steps to respond to you and it may be more difficult for some to do that. This technology is, sometimes, hard to keep up with."
Thanks RaeAnn. You've probably made some accurate observations there.

We heard from Bill Olson, BHS-62, and he was sending some information on someone he remembers from his days growing up in Boonetown.
He recalled knowing a Joe B. Wells, BHS-13, and was seeking more information about him.
The Kornerman replied that I remembered Joe. B. Wells who was a World War II Prisoner of War, was the Boone Postmaster for a time and was married to Monica Wells.
Bill replied that the timeline didn't seem correct and the Kornerman did some further research.
I found two Joe B. Wells. The one I was referring to was a BHS-38 grad as compared to the one who graduated in  1913, the one Bill, initially, was talking about.
I guess I'll assume there were two Joe B. Wells, probably a father/son combination.

Business Update: (1) Bomgaars is now occupying the old Walmart building and it is open for inspection. An official grand opening will be coming early next month. The new Boulder's motel/convention center has been open for business for a few weeks now. (2) Progress is showing on various projects as builders attempt to wrap things up while summer weather is still available. Included are the new Iowa Bank, a dental office and the renovation of the old Redeker's building.
(3) Word on the street is that a "Sale Pending" sign is now visable on the now departed Peoples Clothing store.

A few weeks ago, Mark Moorman wondered if we had any information regarding a reunion of the 1968 Toreador football team. At that time, we had no such info. However, Roger Martin told the Kornerman the other day that, "yes, there will be a reunion of that team the weekend of September 28-29," which jibes with the 2018 BHS homecoming weekend.
Martin said that Jim Jewett would be back from California for the event and many other team members are also expected.
That team had a 7-0-1 record. The tie was a season opening 32-32 draw with Ames. The team averaged 34 points a game in  surging to the conference championship.

Things that are important for you to know: (1) It takes six months to build a Rolls Royce but only 13 hours to build a Toyota. (2) It takes 20 minutes for your brain to know that your stomach is full. (3) There are 43,252,003,274,489, 856,000 possible Rubic's Cube combinations. (4) A one-minute kiss burns 26 calories.
Then too, a few observations: (1) health nuts are going to feel stupid some day lying in a hospital dying of nothing. (2) In the 60's, people took acid to make the world weird. Now, the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal.
