Let's do some "catch up" with some info that has "found" my desk recently.
Congratulations to Susan Schafer and to the members of the Boone 100's Club for some outstanding local work.
The well known author James Patterson has announced some recipients of his annual holiday bookstore bonus program, an effort he has provided since 2015 to various bookstores that are members of the American Booksellers Association. This year, Patterson has pledged $300,00 to 600 bookstores, 11 from Iowa.
Included in the 11 was Susan Schafer of the Book Shoppe in Boone, one of the $500 holiday bonus winners.

For the fourth time, Boone's 100's Club held its Night of Philanthropy recently and the Free Clinic of Boone County received the $3,100 that was raised.
This great idea was organized by Dave Sherry and Shellie Grabau who invited community members to gather in support of one of three worthy community causes. If 100 people showed up at $100 each, the selected "cause" would receive a $10,000 boost.
This time, presentations were made for the coming Boone Area Veterans Center, the Free Clinic of Boone County and for Boone High School Athletic Training. In a close vote from those in attendance, the Free Clinic was selected.

The next two items are known by now locally but, perhaps, not by those Boone area natives who now live elsewhere in these United States or abroad.
Some big events will be coming to the old hometown in May and August of 2025.
The Central Iowa Expo, located east, just outside of town, will be hosting the Pyrotechnics Guild International (PGI) from August 2-9.
The PGI is renowned for its spectacular shows. Its promoted as, "a celebration of all things fireworks and promises to light up the skies of Boone County like never before."
On August 3 and 8, the public will be invited to witness pyro-musicals and jaw-dropping displays and an innovation in pyrotechnics will showcase the latest in pyrotechnic devices and techniques, featuring the best of the best.
This annual convention brings together hundreds of members to share panel discussions, workshops, hands-on-learning, photography and video and nightly displays.

May 13-16, Cedar Pointe Golf Course in Boone will host the first ever NJCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship.
This championship will attract 15 teams of six golfers and another 15 to 20 at-large competitors plus their friends and families from across the nation to Boone.
A cooperative effort involving interim Boone (DMACC) Campus dean and athletic director B.J. McGinn, Kris Blocker, the Executive Director of the Boone County Convention and Visitor's Bureau, DMACC campus women's golf coach Chris Seaboch and Cedar Pointe officials, including Cory Henson, the Golf Course Superintendent, has resulted in bringing another prestigious national event to Boone.
