WHO GOES WHERE?

As the excitement builds regarding the addition of a new elementary building as part of the Boone Community School district, the Kornerman has heard the following discussion over and over and over. "What students will occupy this new building and what about Franklin and the Boone Middle School?"
We could probably also add....."what about Lincoln and Page schools?"
Lots of questions and, perhaps, many incorrect answers.
So, here we go......making an effort for some clarification.
The brand new facility, that is scheduled for a 2023 fall opening, will include daycare, preschool, transitional kindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade, most which are currently offered at Page and Lincoln elementary schools. Page and Lincoln will close with the advent of the new elementary building.
The new facility will be built with the flexibility to accomodate future needs, such as expanded programming and/or adjustments to grade level configurations. It is also being built with expansion in mind, ensuring larger areas such as the gymnasium, cafeteria and library can be added to accomodate as  many as  600 students, if needed later.
Franklin elementary provides the next step in the overall educational experience. Second, third and fourth graders occupy that building which currently is serving 370 students.
Then comes the Boone Middle School for students in fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grades. This school year, 672 students are attending Boone Middle School.
Freshmen students then move to Boone High School, joining sophomores, juniors and seniors to complete their high school education.
Another important part of the complete Boone Community School District program is the Futures Alternative school, which is designed to provide an expanded educational setting for students. The primary purpose of the Futures program is to develop a realization of the value of education and work preparation skills which enable students to earn a Boone Basic diploma. All Futures school offerings are based on measurable student competencies and standards.
Sometime in the coming months, decisions will be made regarding the Page and Lincoln facilities and plans may also be settled regarding a new location for the Boone Futures school, which has been located at 727 Mamie Eisenhower Avenue for many years.

Sometime back, when we were talking Fast Pitch Softball, there was mention made of a spectacular local player with just one arm but the ability to use that arm to participate in a very competitive way.
Tom Peterson, BHS-67, reminds us that the player was Ray Schoenrock of Ames.
