SMALL WORLD ISN'T IT?

I'd be interested to know how many times I, the Kornerman, and John and Susan Kueck have exchanged communication since the start of the Korner, blog edition, on March 6, 2010. Can't be that long ago can it? Let me brag even more.......the Korner actually started in the Boone News Republican in 1962. Oh my.....63 years ago.

Anyway, we're still at it and the Kueck's have just reported an interesting Boone angle story and I'm going to use it all, edit free.

In John's words, "Boone, Iowa has a population of about 12,500? What are the odds that not two, not three, not four but five people with roots in Boone would find each other as neighbors at Friendship Village in Minnesota? The latest new resident is Jean Goeppinger, BHS-60.

Two men, Steve Hamilton, BHS-66, and John Morton, BHS-65, live in the town homes on Parkview Lane. The other two, I (John, BHS-61,) and Ron Miller reside in the L Wing.

John Morton and John Kueck attended BHS at the same time, but they didn't know each other because they were in different grades. John Kueck didn't know Steve Hamilton growing up, either, but he said as a child, he loved to peer through the window at Hamilton Hardware (which he now knows was Steve's dad's store) to watch the early model color TV on display. Ron Miller went to school in Ogden. Three of the men attended Iowa State, but they didn't know each other there either.

John Kueck summed it up as follows: The conclusion is that intelligent Iowans move north first, then to Friendship Village. We have made some attempt to calculate the odds, but there are too many variables and unknowns to come to a viable conclusion. We are, however, convinced that it would be one very large number."

Well, we're not going to quibble too much with our good friend John BUT I'm sure that's an old population figure for you're old hometown AND we're optimistic that there's more to come with the housing explosion and future impact of the huge new Daisy Dairy project.

I understand there are numerous other Boone natives who have been attracted to the Minneapolis area but call me old fashioned if you wish. I've always said, "this community has given me all the wonderful  opportunities I've needed to have a great life. Right here, in Boone, Iowa, I've received everything I've ever wanted and everything I've ever needed." Amen.

K-----K

There might have been a time when I shrugged off any semblance of approval or praise? but now, I'm old, time is fleeting, so I'll "let it fly."

Two kind readers have had appreciative thoughts recently. One wrote, "this is a thoughtful and informative post. Local funeral homes play such an important role in supporting families during difficult times, offering compassionate care and personalized services. Its comforting to know that there are dedicated professionals nearby who can hold and guide these moments with respect and understanding."

Another said, "thanks so much for the mention of the Slammers baseball team. These boys played their hearts out in sweltering heat and got no mention at all in our Boone media. I really appreciate your keeping us all up to date with Boone happenings."

'nuff said. Thank you so much for your thoughts.

K-----K

The Kornerman was invited to attend and speak at a BHS Class of '59 reunion event last week.

The group met at the Senior Citizen's Center and that's a great place for such an event.....enough room, a kitchen and it was cool on a hot day. We had a very informal "discussion" for 30 minutes or so and I enjoyed seeing the 25 or so in attendance. Recognized most of them.

It was great.....thanks for the memories.
