Dan Zatloukal,71, Webster City. Survivors include a son, Shaun (Elyse) Zatloukal, of Boone.
Marva Jean Muench Stark, 89, Boxholm. Born in Ogden. Was a farm girl. Boxholm HS-55. Iowa State Teachers grad in elementary education. Taught in Dayton. Married Glenn C. Stark in Ogden in 1958. The couple farmed northeast of Boxholm. In 1993, they moved to Boxholm, restoring Glenn's childhood home. Marva was very active in church and enjoyed volunteering in the community. She worked at the Eastern Star Home for many years and was a substitute teacher. She found fellowship in several clubs, loved learning "new" things and became a Master Gardener at 80. Survivors include her husband, Glenn, two daughters, including Joni Stark-Miller of Boxholm and four siblings. A COL will be held next year.
Lorna Jean Newberg Albers Thomas, 88, Boone/Bethany Life. Born in South Dakota. Lenox school. Married LeRoy Newberg. The couple lived on a farm near Ellsworth. They divorced. Lorna married Gary Lee Thomas. He passed in 2011. Lorna worked in the custodial department at Iowa State until retirement. She was a good baker and also excelled at sewing. Four children and five siblings survive. The children are Rodney and Russell Newberg and Rachelle (Nick) Hansen of Boone and Ronnie (Jeri) Newberg of Ogden. Services in Boone.
David R. Duncan, 70, Boone/Hearth Stone. Born in Boone. BHS-73. Married Debora Dodd in Boone in 1977. David was a welder for 21 years at Quinn's before becoming a custodian for the Boone schools for 23 years prior to retirement. He was heavily involved in Little League coaching and as a Board member. David loved tractors, muscle cars and the outdoors. He enjoyed working on race cars and over his lifetime, planted more than 10,000 trees on his property. An avid hunter and fisherman, most of all he was a family man. Survivors include his three children, Molly (Steve) Penberthy, John (Michelle) Duncan and Mark (Matt) Sengin. His mother, Marilyn Duncan, and three siblings also survive. Services in Boone and Pilot Mound.
Mary (Lou) Margaret Phipps (Martin, Lovitt), 74, Boone. Born in Van Horne, IA. Benton Community HS-69. Lived in Cedar Rapids while working at Penick and Ford. Moved to Boone in 1985 to be with River Rat Phipps. They were married in Coos Bay, Oregon. Mary had a passion for her faith and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Survivors include her husband, River Rat Phipps, a son, David Higgins, and many more relatives and friends. Services in Boone.
